On 4 June 2026, Greece reached its Overshoot Day, the point at which the country has consumed all the renewable natural resources the Earth can regenerate in an entire year, as calculated by the Global Footprint Network. From this date onwards, Greece operates in ecological deficit, drawing on resources that belong, in effect, to future generations.
